Lost... White-Cheeked Turaco (Blakenhall) Wolverhampton
I’m wondering if anyone has seen the bird in the photograph? It’s a Turaco and it escaped my aviary yesterday Thursday 26th of January.
The white-cheeked Turaco is an African bird species found in the countries of Eritrea, Ethiopia, Sudan and South Sudan.
The Turaco is part of the Musophagidae family which means ‘banana eaters’, living on fruit, small insects and vegetable matter, as well as plants.
Generally, Turacos are forest species, and spend much of their time foraging in amongst the branches of trees and although able to fly will mostly fly short distances and prefer to hop from branch to branch. In flight a Turaco exposes it’s beautiful crimson red flight wings.
I’m worried that it won’t survive as it is only 6 months old and has never experienced life outside of the aviary
Only one has previously been spotted living wild in the UK, but a few can be found in zoos
